What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy does have many similarities to traditional talking therapies. Starting with a consultation, where we will discuss the issue, that you wish to work on and the outcome you would like. In therapy we call that goal setting. We will agree a treatment plan that achieves these goals. Hypnotherapy is highly efficient, so it is possible to resolve issues quickly and with sustainable results. Which also has the benefits of being cost efficient.

The initial consultation could also include information about your issue, if needed. I would also answer any other questions you might have about hypnotherapy and explain how the subconscious mind works. We would also do some warmup hypnotic exercises so that you are comfortable and familiar with what to expect during the session.

All sessions include hypnosis and there are a variety of ways to do this. These are called inductions and most people find this a very relaxing and pleasant experience. Even though you might think you have drifted off, your attention will be incredibly focused on everything that is said during the session. As you will be very relaxed and focused you will have a more positive mindset and you will engage with the change process more fully.

What is unique about hypnotherapy is that we, yes you are part of the process too, will communicate directly with your subconscious mind. This direct communication is in the form of suggestions, they can either be direct, like a command, or indirect, like a request. Or even a combination of both. From our consultation, I will know what would suit you. And as everything suggested, is aligned towards your goals, you will find it easy to accept the suggestions given. You are also able to discard any suggestions that does not align with those goals or is incongruent to you or just not ready for that one yet. You are always in control, always part of the process.

Metaphorical stories are a powerful technique, they are also suggestions, widely used within hypnotherapy and are an alternative way to process your issue and change. Where you make connections in your mind that are relevant to you.

There are many other techniques that are also used within sessions, some of these are unique to hypnotherapy, for example, Fast phobia cure or aversion therapy. Some, overlap with traditional talking therapies, so might be familiar to you. Mindfulness, CBT or pain management. As I have had a broad training in using multiple techniques, I use what I think will work best for your goals.
